Base Health
Our basics to health and wellbeing.
More often than not we overcomplicate our health. This is due to an overabundance of information on the internet and from life and people around us.

- Sleep & Water
- Rest
- Walk & Stretch
- Nourishment
- A healthy Body Fat distribution
- Nature
- Free Spirit
1. SLEEP & WATER
It is simple for Base Health. Each day focus on sleep and water. Accomplishing a good nights sleep and proper hydration gives you the best base. You can go without food for a day, you can go without your coffee for a day (yes, it is possible!), but you need to hydrate and sleep on a daily basis, just these two alone solve many symptoms.
2. REST
Next is the ability to rest. Sounds simple? As a registered nutritional therapist, I find that the hardest thing for my clients to accomplish long term is the simple Base Health quest to rest whenever you can. Put down social media, this triggers inspiration or guilt to get up and do something. You are committed to your rest time. Not a trip to Sainsbury’s or Hobbycraft. Rest.
3. WALK & STRETCH
Walk and stretch. Better yet, walk in a park, in the countryside or close to trees, grass, fresh air. Not the treadmill. Outside. Breathe in through your nose and out through your mouth. Get your circulation going, take big steps, and lift your arms above your head.
4. NOURISHMENT
Nourishment. Quite far down our list? Yes. Sometimes, if we do not get enough sleep, we reach for the carbs, or quick energy. Not enough water and we may feel hungry, even though this is thirst, or a headache may be due to dehydration.
The Base Health of nourishment comes from Nutrients and a minimally-processed healthy diet;
- Essential Nutrients Essential nutrients are vital for your health, but they cannot be produced in your body, so you have to get them from foods or dietary supplements.
- Conditionally Essential Nutrients Conditionally essential nutrients can be produced in your body, but in certain circumstances, like a severe disease or infancy, you may need to obtain additional amounts from foods. Some conditionally essential nutrients include Vitamin D, Amino acids, Lutein, zeaxanthin, and Betaine.
- Non-Essential Nutrients Not all minerals and vitamins are considered essential as these can be manufactured by the body. For example, starch, fructose, saturated fatty acids, and cholesterol.
5. A HEALTHY BODY FAT DISTRIBUTION
Did you know that body fat stores excess food, nutrients, and hormones? A good way to ensure that you have a healthy Body Fat distribution is to use the hip to waist ratio. The BMI calculator needs a bit of an update and may not be specific to your genetics.
6. NATURE
We don’t just mean going for a walk in the woods. Nature is about cycles, sunrise, sunset, moon cycles, blossom, buds, autumn and so are our bodies.
7. FREE SPIRIT & SOUL
The earth is abundant and we reflect the diversity of nature. Not all natural therapies fit all as we are organic. What works for your friend may not work for you.
Your free time is your own. You may not enjoy the same hobbies or social occasions as others. Be free to follow your passions and dreams.
